A Reiki healing session can induce an extremely comfortable state of being that stimulates a persons body to enter their parasympathetic nervous system. There are two states that our body can be in physcially and mentally. The sympathetic nervous system, and the parasympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system is widely known as our flight or fight response. This response releases hormones that trigger the heart to beat faster and pulls blood into the areas that need to react fast in life threatening situations. The parasympathetic nervous system is the exact opposite. It is stimulated when we are still, relaxed and calm thus releasing even blood flow and oxygen to all parts of the body. This state of being is particularly important for the body becuase healing only takes place when the body is in the parasympathetic state. Unfortunately the survival method of flight or fight that was created in our bodies is no longer used just in life threatening situations. Merely feeling stressed about the demands of everyday life keeps our bodies constantly in fight or flight mode. Supplimenting with regular reiki sessions can be the perfect go to remedy for stress releif, relaxation and a balanced body and mind.   If used with other therapies (meditation, massage, crystals, aroma therapy, Bach Flower remedies, homeopathy, etc.) reiki is even more effective. It can be used also as complementary therapy, because Reiki is truly a complementary care. It complements and enhances the health care patients receive in the hospital or from other health care providers. Modern medical practices are beginning to embrace reiki and have even implemented practitioner treatments in cancer treatment facilities due to its  positive relaxing results. Reiki healing complements Eastern and Western medicine and everybody can benefit from it.
